Willian Pacho in the mix

Newcastle United have made more than just a decent start to the Premier League. The Magpies registered some impressive yet inconsistent performances this season. The club changed the momentum and rhythm of the English domestic scene when they beat Man City in the third round of EFL Cup which was followed by thrashing Manchester United 3-0 in the round of 16.

Newcastle played another big win (4-1) against French big bull PSG in the second match of the group stage of the Champions League, and ofcourse that highly-controversial win against Arsenal a couple of weeks back.

But they then have suffered losses against likes of Bournemouth and similarly inconsistent Brighton team, and that could be down to depth of the squad. Especially in tht defensive line. To strengthen their lineup Newcastle are looking to sign Bundesliga star defender Willian Pacho in the January transfer window.

The expectation and pressure on Newcastle United increased when the club qualified for the Champions League last season. That made the club fight on all fronts in the current campaign and the result was a mix of both win and loss.

Despite Eddie Howe’s great mentorship, Newcastle as of now stands last in the group F. The club played a draw against AC Milan and failed to beat Borussia Dortmund in both home and away. So, it is clear that if Newcastle wants to make a mark in the European league they need consistent depth in the team.

According to the report of Sport1 in Germany, Newcastle United could sign defender Willian Pacho in the 2024 transfer window. However, Eintracht Frankfurt’s sporting director Markus Krosche hardly seeks to hold their star defender.

Krosche commented on Pacho, “Certainly he is making a good development. But our plan is for him to stay with us longer. After the big upheaval last summer, the young players are expected to develop gradually: Pacho has immediately become a top performer. But he still has issues he can work on.”

The great thing for Frankfurt is that they have a contract with the central defender until 2028. This put Krosche and Frankfurt in a strong position in negotiation if Newcastle United shows interest in signing the 22-year talent.

Willian Pacho, WHY?

Newcastle already have limited centre-backs and if there were any of them got injured it would be a major problem for the club. They have three prime center-backs – Sven Botman, Fabian Schar, and Jamaal Lascelles who play full-time. And with Botman injured, there already is a problem – especially if Schar or Jamaal puts their hand up. With Dan Burn out as well, the options look bleak.

Currently, with the defensive setup in quite a vulnerable state makes even the strong the fact that the club has to sign a cover in January transfer window. Willian Pacho, the Germain defender, has already gained enough appreciation from his manager and teammates for his skills and performances.

Manager Dino Toppmoller shared his thoughts on Pacho via Sport1, “His (defending) is absolutely world-class.”

So, it would be interesting to see whether Newcastle United approaches the young talent or not and if yes, how Frankfurt negotiates for him. It’s clear from the skills and performance of Pacho that he is a long-run player with immense potential. Without a doubt, he is a great asset to any club whether it’s Newcastle United, Frankfurt, or any other.
